Operating throughout Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, France and Switzerland, DocMorris supplies prescription drugs, over-the-counter products and personal care products to more than 10 million customers. The company’s mission to deliver ‘health-in-one-click’ calls for high-quality service and strict compliance with pharmaceutical industry regulations. Quality is vital, and DocMorris has implemented advanced IT and business processes, including test automation and test management, to guarantee the stellar service that maintains a trustworthy brand image.
Complex business processes
Supply chain back-end quality assurance is essential for DocMorris, which uses SAP solutions for supply chain to ensure efficient business processes throughout order processing, from pharmacist approval, through to purchasing and logistics processes. Many of these processes involve handoffs from one team to another and complex validations, so a streamlined testing process across the various elements in the chain, was key to quality assurance.
The DocMorris QA team coordinates the tests to be performed between IT and key users, and handles functional and regression testing themselves. This includes initiating orders and checking the various payment methods, delivery options with different courier services and pharmaceutical approvals required. This last validation is especially crucial, because pharmaceutical companies are required to check whether a prescription is valid, the dosage is correct and that combinations of medicines do not cause harmful side effects. Testing all these variables, and keeping pace with rapid developments in software, was becoming challenging. DocMorris needed a Quality Engineering & Testing partner.

The perfect partner for test automation
To maintain high quality standards, DocMorris called on Sogeti for help to automate the testing of its complex validation processes, thanks to a proven track record and tech experts adept at finding creative solutions, swiftly. The pharmaceutical company knew it wanted to use Tricentis solutions, and as Tricentis Solutions Partner for Test Automation and Test Management with a 15-year partnership, Sogeti was a natural fit.
Tricentis tools
Time-consuming and error-prone manual testing was not an option. DocMorris and Sogeti opted for Tosca for test automation and qTest for test management. Tricentis is the preferred solution for SAP quality assurance, and the two Tricentis tools integrate seamlessly, both with each other, and with SAP products. They are also compatible with Jira Cloud, enabling closer collaboration between international teams across the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.
End-to-end testing
The complex business processes were the main challenge to test automation implementation. Testing had to be end-to-end, covering several handovers and component transfers between teams along the way. qTest supports that process by enabling DocMorris and Sogeti to link test cases to tasks in Jira to provide an overview. When an issue is raised, a Jira ticket is created and linked to the qTest test case so testers can check status in both qTest and Jira.
Test automation in practice
Every morning at 5 a.m., DocMorris performs an automated sanity check with DEX and also runs a batch of end-to-end (regression) scenarios. This tests all modules that have been built, to check that processes are running properly and certain end-to-end scenarios are working. Based on the sanity check results, testing professionals can further optimize test sets. New functionalities are also added to the modules as they are developed, in a constant expansion of end-to-end scenarios.
Making testing 50% faster
With over 4,200 DocMorris test cases in qTest, 75% of which are used, the new test automation solution ensures an improved, more efficient testing process. Crucially, Tosca halves testing time. If the pharmaceutical company were to manually test the entire process from order to shipment, it would take 25 minutes, but with Tosca, it only takes half to a third of that time. The two Tricentis platforms also standardize testing practices, allowing DocMorris to further emphasize quality along the testing process. The ease of use and transparency of test automation also contribute to greater efficiency and quality, which is vital for a company which works with different agile teams. When test cases apply to several teams, the built-in reporting functionality allows DocMorris to clearly communicate the overarching results to management and other stakeholders.
