Enexis goes agile with public cloud migration

Client challenge

With 4,500 employees Enexis is one of the three largest grid operators in the Netherlands. They transport gas to 2.3 million customers and electricity to 2.8 million customers.

The energy market is changing very fast because of energy transition, this means Enexis has to organize its organization in a flexible and scalable way.

Enexis was looking to make a journey to the cloud and move away from their current data center. They also wanted to shift their applications to the cloud in order to become more agile and be able to deliver new functionality faster.

How we made value

The contract on behalf of Sogeti was a consortium approach with partners Schuberg Philis, and First Consulting – referred to as SSF.

Leveraging migration, build and run capability from Sogeti’s OneDeliver solution over 200 applications were migrated and maintained together with Enexis on a 24/7 basis.

The new full automated environment has enabled Enexis to facilitate multiple audit trails and improve compliance. Enexis is now able to perform in a more agile way of working and are able to deploy new functionality faster. 

• The implementation and integration of applications within the IT operation has been simplified with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
• Application delivery down from 6-12 weeks to just 2 days.
• Fully automated processes will enable systems to be switched off when they are not in use making cost savings of up to 25%.

Our experience with large scale transformations to the public cloud and cooperation with niche partners Schuberg Philis and First Consulting created a roadmap and the transition of over 200 existing applications to a cloud-native application platform, either on IaaS, PaaS or SaaS.

Sogeti and Enexis have also won a joint sourcing award for the most revolutionary eco-system for public-private cooperation.
